Dr. Mui graduated summa cum laude from Tulane University. Dr. Mui then earned her medical degree at Washington University, where she also went on to complete her residency in Psychiatry in 2003. She has been elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honor society.

Before entering private practice, Dr. Mui enjoyed a successful academic career at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. There, she was director of the University Hospital Psychiatry Consultation-Liaison service. She was also director of a large medical student course and participated in the training of residents in psychiatry, neurology, family medicine, and emergency medicine. Dr. Mui was a leader in medical education and received teaching awards and recognition for her work.
